Just Breathe

This week we were lucky enough to catch up with the lovely Danyelle from Little Brick Home to find out more about her #justbreathetogether campaign raising money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis.  Have a read to find out how just easy it is for you to participate and give your support.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your personal connection to Cystic Fibrosis.

I’m Danyelle, the owner of Little Brick Home Prints and I have Cystic Fibrosis. On the outside I look like a regular woman, but I am fighting a disease on the inside. CF has taken the life of people I spent time with in hospital as a kid, so I am so grateful for each day that I am still alive and able to do what I love. Each day I take tablets, do physio treatment, exercise to clear my lungs, inject insulin for my diabetes and then normal daily activities of housework and running my small business. It can sometimes be difficult, but I am mostly just happy to be healthy and alive.

Tell us about the Just Breathe campaign. Where did it all begin? And what was your vision when you created it?

The idea was to just raise awareness. For a disease so common it is hard to believe not many people know what it is or how it affects patients. At the moment life expectancy is just 37, 1 in 2500 babies are born with the disease and 1 in 25 people carry the gene. ‘Just Breathe’ is a common slogan in the CF community, and I wanted something unique to our cause so I added the ‘together’.  Together we can make a difference.

It is wonderful to see the Instagram community come together to support you in this cause, can you please tell us how everyone came together and most importantly how we can support the campaign?

At first I was going to upload a print myself and try to get the hashtag  #justbreathetogether rolling, but I thought about how nice it would be to have a range of different prints and businesses. At first it was really daunting asking similar businesses to donate a design to me for free, but we have had some really amazing people come on board. Not only have these gorgeous people donated their designs but they have also done so much promotion for the cause that I just find myself in tears, just overwhelmed at the kindness and support. I truly have made some lovely friends through this cause. I have also been contacted by other people with CF, or people with loved ones who have CF, and its so nice to connect with others who share the same struggles.

Where would you like to see the Just Breathe campaign in the future?

CF awareness month is May and I hope to do something similar next year. I have a few things I would change about the campaign, but being my first go I think it has been successful so far. I have spent years building my Instagram and I have a voice that I intend to use for campaigns such as this.

If you would like to support the campaign it is as simple as downloading a free print, taking a photo and sharing it with the #justbreathetogether. If you'd like to learn more or make a donation head on over the Little Brick Home website.
