Locavore Love

We are now just one week out from Christmas. If you are in shock at where the year has gone,  rest assured that you are not alone. When considering our final feature for 2017 it was impossible to look past The Locavorium. I mean specially curated local gourmet food all packaged up in a black and gold box - who could resist? We recently spoke with Alanna, a self confessed foodie about her decedent brand.

Tell us a about your brand. How and where did it all begin?

The Locavorium was simply born out of my love for food and the amazing produce we have in the Geelong region. I was keen to start a business I could run from home that would allow me flexibility to be the mother I wanted to be, but also allow me to work in field I am passionate about. The Locavorium was started almost 3 years ago, just as the food scene here in Geelong was really kicking up to the next level, I simply wanted to showcase some of that in hampers what were modern in their aesthetic appeal.

What importance is placed on selecting local products?

Local is at the core of what we are all about, Geelong has the most amazing range of artisan producers making truly fine quality and innovative products. I love visiting the local farmers markets and keeping up with all the new local business that pop-up via social media. I am  a Geelong local and am very proud to show off what our region has to offer.

How do you go about curating your boxes to provide a complete experience?

I am inspired by the produce available to me and it just grows from there. Once I have an idea of one or two key items I want to showcase I try to think about what occasion or type of person they might appeal to, and build a theme around that. Having said all that, I do love putting together the personalised gifts that my customers request, putting a personal touch on a gift really makes it something special.

What are your tips for selecting the perfect hamper for a loved one this Christmas?

I usually encourage my customers to either think about what they know that person enjoys, for example if they’re sparkling wine lover then I’d recommend our Vixen hamper, it includes a beautiful crisp and refreshing Prosecco by 6ft6 wines, perfect for summer, along with a selection of indulgent goodies such as gorgeous scented candle by Hazelbaby Soy Candles and a divine coconut and matcha milk bath by Kokkos Skincare. It’s the perfect gift to really indulge your loved one. Alternatively, if the gift giver doesn’t know their recipient closely I encourage them to think about the experience they’d like to give that person. For example, I receive a lot of requests for Christmas gifts to give to a team of people in an office environment. So this year I have put together the Joyeux hamper that is all about sharing and enjoying together

Where would you like to see The Locavorium in the future?

Hmmm this is a tough one because I feel so grateful to have made it this far and have so much support from the Geelong community. But I would definitely like to grow the business to be a well known hamper company in the local region and create strong relationships with my customers. I’d also like to put some more love into the little passion project I launched this year, our range of artisan chocolate bars. I worked with Lynne from Moorabool Valley Chocolates to create a small range of chocolate bars with modern flavour combinations, and I have so many more ideas to expand on the range we have launched currently.
