Skin Anew

With the Australian summer just around the corner there are a few things that will inevitably occur including that first sunburn of the year. We all have the best intentions to slip, slop and slap at every opportunity but lets be honest it doesn't take very long to see the affects of the sun on your skin. We recently spoke to Jess from Born Again Body about keeping your skin hydrated over the summer months and beyond.

Tell us about your brand. How and where did it all begin?

Born Again Body was born from a love of the wild unknown, an adventurous spirit and the need to look after my skin with simplicity and ease. I was living in Bali when I found a gap in the market for a natural, lightweight body lotion that would nourish and hydrate my skin after a day outdoors. Most products I came across were too thick and greasy, particularly in the humid climate, so I was in need of a lightweight yet hydrating formula for my skin.

How did you go about selecting the ingredients in your product and what are their benefits for nourished and hydrated skin?

I went ‘back to basics’ with the ingredient selection for the Hydrating Skin Tonic. Not in terms of their beneficial properties but in terms of the formula. I didn’t want to over complicate things and include ingredients that weren’t necessary or relevant. Aloe vera, vitamin E and cucumber seed oil are some of the key ingredients which help to heal, provide deep hydration and repair the skin from the outdoor elements. Plus, the lightweight formula means it’s easy to use and perfect for on the go.

Why do you choose to minimal aesthetic for your product packaging?

My background is in graphic design so design, packaging and having a strong brand aesthetic is so important to me. With a similar approach to the ingredients selection, I knew I wanted the look and feel of Born Again Body to represent simplicity and minimalism.

What are your top tips for keeping your skin hydrated throughout the summer months?

My number one tip for summertime skincare would be to apply sunscreen every day, most importantly to your face. If you have an active lifestyle and spend a lot of time outdoors it’s so vital that you’re protecting and preventing your skin from the ageing process, not to mention skin cancer as well. Summertime can also mean a lot of humidity and loss of fluid. Drinking plenty of water will not only keep you hydrated but will help to keep your skin glowing and feeling renewed from the inside out. I also like to make sure I’m regularly exfoliating and/or using a deeply hydrating mask 1-2 times a week.
