The Herbal Apothecary
From the moment you step through the door of The Herbal Apothecary, you are transported back through time. Filled with an extensive range of curated herbal remedies, teas and natural oils, there is something to aid any ailment. Owner and naturopath, Michelle recently gave us an insight into the store and the benefits natural products can have for our bodies. With winter on the way, now is the time to fine tune your health and immunity to survive the colder weather.
Tell us about the Herbal Apothecary, where did it all begin and what was your vision?
The Herbal Apothecary has been a long held vision of mine as I wanted to create a space where people can explore and have safe access to herbal remedies. The world of herbs is a fascinating place and I truly wanted to be able to share it with as many people as possible.
Can you tell us a bit about Naturopathy and how it can assist with a wide range of health issues?
Naturopathy is a holistic approach to health which understands that your body, given the right resources and a bit of guidance, has everything it needs to create good health and wellness. Naturopaths draw on their knowledge of Nutrition and Herbal Medicine and how the body works to identify and correct the underlying cause of your health issue. We see patients with a wide range of health complaints from the common cold to more chronic health issues such as rheumatoid arthritis or anxiety.
As we begin to head into the cooler months what are two things people can do to help themselves to stay fit and healthy?
One of the simplest things we can do is make sure our diets are full of fresh fruits of veggies. Eat a Rainbow a Day by providing our bodies with an array of different coloured veggies and fruits, such as green, red, purple, orange and blue. The minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients we get from these foods help to support our immune systems and keep it strong over the winter months. A lot of people notice that they can feel a little blue and unmotivated over winter, this can be due to low Vitamin D that we get from the sun. It can be difficult to keep our Vitamin D levels up over the winter months and whilst we definitely have a lot of glum and dreary days, the sun still manages to make an appearance most days. 20 minutes of morning sunshine on exposed skin can help to keep you maintain your Vitamin D. So if you walk to work in the morning, roll those sleeves up and enjoy the sunshine!
What can your customers expect to experience when they visit your store?
The absolute most common feedback I am hearing, is that people feel like they have taken a step back in time, to a place reminiscent of an old world Apothecary. It makes me smile every time as this is what we envisioned for The Herbal Apothecary, both aesthetically but also in function. We are unique in that we provide over-the-counter Naturopathic advice and are then able to formulate a customised herbal remedy from our vast range of herbal products. Customers can also pop in to grab their favourite tea from our wall of teas, a gift from our beautiful range of handmade bath and beauty products or even a soothing valerian balm to help with sleep.
What does the future hold for the Herbal Apothecary?
Being a relatively new business, at the moment we are focusing on settling in and expanding our product ranges. It has been a whirlwind start which has been fantastic, but now it is time to reflect and focus on developing our business. We are currently working on our much anticipated Essential Oil range which we are expecting to release in the coming months.
